Performance Features of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma

In contrast to comparable mid-size pickups like the Chevrolet Colorado or Ford Ranger, the Toyota Tacoma outsells the company’s full-size pickup truck. This year, the third-generation Taco turns eight, and while customers have come to adore this top-selling mid-sizer, its basic features are beginning to show signs of wear. While a 278-hp V-6 is available with a six-speed manual transmission, a weak 159-hp inline-four engine is standard. The only two pickup trucks offered for sale in the US are the Jeep Gladiator and the Toyota Tacoma. Although it can tow more weight than the Nissan Frontier, the capable Tacoma is held by its seating and fuel efficiency. In this blog by Phil Meador, Toyota dealership, we’ll discuss the performance features of the 2023 Toyota Tacoma.

Engine and Performance Features

The Tacoma’s base 159-hp four-cylinder engine is underpowered and should be avoided, while the optional 278-hp V-6 engine makes 265 lb-ft of torque and offers respectable performance and towing power. We also advise avoiding either engine’s finicky six-speed automatic transmission and opting instead for the V-6’s six-speed manual. Even the larger engine occasionally struggles when the automatic is supporting it. The TRD Off-Road and TRD Pro variants seek challenging roads, but the TRD Sport and Limited are designed for the city. However, these decisions could be more speedy. The Tacoma could be better for handling and ride quality, but it can easily navigate rugged backroads and trails.
