Engine and Performance of Each Trim

There are six trim options for the 2020 Toyota Corolla, excluding the Hybrid option. The trim options are the Corolla L, LE, SE CVT, SE (6MT), XSE and the XLE.

Starting off we have the L and LE trims. These two trims have a 1.8-Liter 4-Cylinder engine paired with a Continuously Variable Transmission with intelligence and Shift Mode. This pairing achieves a horsepower of 139 and 126 lb-ft of torque. The XLE trim also has this engine and transmission combination. However, they differ in fuel economy. The L and LE trims have a fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon in the city and 38 on the highway. The XLE trim has a fuel economy of 29 mpg in the city and 37 on the highway.

The remaining three trims have the 2.0L 4-Cylinder engine. They do not share the same transmission though. The SE CVT and XSE trims both have the Dynamic-Shift Continuously Variable Transmission with physical First-launch gear. This combination achieves a horsepower of 169 and 151 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy of these trims, however, are different. The SE CVT gets 31 mpg in the city and 40 on the highway. Conversely, the XSE gets 31 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

Now to return to the SE (6MT) trim. This trim has a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission which paired with the 2.0L 4-Cylinder engine, achieves 169 hp and 151 lb-ft of torque. The fuel economy of this trim is 29 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.
